Originally built in 1997, the El Primero "Rainbow" was made to specs set forth by the French Air Force. They had requested a chronograph capable of withstanding forces of up to nine to eleven G's, wide variations in pressure and temperature, and a dial that was extremely easy to read.

The very first thing one notices on the Rainbow Flyback, which also sets it apart from other Rainbow chronographs in Zenith's lineup, is the unique coloring on the dial and chronograph hands, as well as the bezel. Sporting not one, not two, or even three colors, it features no less than 7 different colors being used to track time. Zenith also has done what few watch manufactures are apt to do, which is make the date window the same color as the dial. And despite Zenith having to remove chunks of the 4 and 5 Arabic numerals on the dial, this black date window really adds to the flow while not making the date seem over-imposing.

Regarding the caseback and movement, this particular Rainbow Flyback does away with the usual etching of the famed Rainbow racing yacht of the 30's and opts instead for the Zenith shield logo. And under this resides the El Primero caliber 405 movement featuring a column wheel, allowing for the addition of the flyback function on top of the renowned 400 caliber, running at 36,000 bph. Though hidden behind the caseback, this movement is a beautiful piece of workmanship and is mesmerizing to watch as the chronograph functions are engaged and reset.

The entire watch is in mint condition, also looks and feels great on the wrist. A beauty to add to your collection.
